Dr Andreas Weigend is a world-renowned expert on consumer behaviour and data strategy. He studies people and the data they create and share. As a consultant, he shows companies how to leverage current and emergent information sources for products and services. As the former Chief Scientist of Amazon.com, he helped build the customer-centric, measurement-focused culture central to Amazon's success.
Andreas regularly speaks at conferences and corporate events, appearing alongside notables such as Dan Ariely, Phil Kotler and Bill Clinton. Recent international keynotes are Why the Social Data Revolution Changes (Almost) Everything (Mexico City), The 4 Myths of E-Commerce (Barcelona) and A River of Data - What Every Company Can Learn from Amazon.com (London).
Andreas is no stranger to Singapore. He was visiting faculty to NUS in 2004/5, and gave the 2008 Shaw Distinguished Lecture Series at SMU on From E-Business to Me-Business - A New Business Model? Recent consulting work in Singapore include Singtel, OCBC, Nokia, SDN, NTU, and others.
Andreas now teaches Data Mining and E-Business at Stanford University, and The Digital Networked Economy at Tsinghua University. He also shares his insights at speaking engagements, including the World Business Forum 2009 in Milan and the World Innovation Forum 2010 in New York. His clients include Alibaba, Best Buy, Goldman Sachs, Lufthansa, Match.com, MySpace, Nokia, Priceline.com, Thomson Reuters, the World Economic Forum, and several innovative startups.
Born in Germany, he received his PhD from Stanford University in physics. His career as a data scientist combined with his deep industry experience across information-intensive organisations allows him to successfully bridge the gap between industry and academia.
